What Happened to Carlos?
First, we’re going to do the carousel activity in order to remember the events in Carlos’s life. Posted around the room are seven sheets of paper. On the papers are written the important events in Carlos’s life: pre-kidnapping, kidnapping, life with the Pima tribe, life with Mr. Gentile, life with the preacher’s family, life as an adult. Get in small groups, and stand in front of one of the papers. You are going to write down everything you can remember about this time in Carlos’s life. Then we are going to rotate. Add anything you can to the paper you are now in front of. We will continue this activity until everyone has written on every paper. If you're by yourself, you can still do this activity. You'll just write on all the pages yourself, and not have anyone else write on them!

Here is an example of me doing this activity, if I was the first person to write on each page, or I was doing it by myself
Pre-kidnapping: Lived with his mother, father, and sisters. Live in Arizona. Pictures show the houses they lived in.
Kidnapping: Gunshots and horses. Burning fires. Happened in the dark.
Life with the Pima Tribe: He was very scared. They gave him a new name. The circle dance shown in the pictures.
Life with Mr. Gentile: Traveled a lot. Took him to see his sisters. He got a new name. Delivered newspapers.
Life with the Preacher’s family: Not a lot of free time. Graduated from high school at age 14!
Life as an adult: Found what was left of his family. Worked as a doctor. Left his job and started trying to get rights for Native Americans.
